I wrote this game mostly during the tail-end of 1992. The last time I wrote any code for it was in March of 1993. Over a year ago. I just cleaned it up a bit (took a whole 20 minutes) for release. I'm not making any claims to its performance, so just have fun with it. Unlike the previous versions, 2.0 is not shareware. I don't really need to charge money for it…you can play around with it. You'll probably have some fun. The rest of the text (hype) in this file was written back in 1992, so I don't really know (or care) what it says. s'ydnar squares was a learning experience for me from "back in the day." If you tire of this one, go buy a copy of a really cool game: Jewelbox. Call up MacConnection. It's a much better game than this one. Besides, anyone can have an off day writing games. I'm rambling, so…
Have fun with it.
ydnar :)
Oh, and since opinions of the game's music varied widely, I just said forget it…you can put on a good CD. (The music in this version is a horrible note sample of a french horn playing (synthed) a wretched melody. So do yourself a favor: Never choose "Music" from the Options menu.) ;-)
This new version has several enhancements over the previous shareware versions:
•Orbs (like wild cards) ...they stand for any color
•Orb Clusters
•Bubbles
•Acids
•Instant Drop
•Save/Restore games at any time
•All new graphics
•All new sounds
•Fixes all the bugs I could find
•Some new slick animation
•Intro
•Bomb pieces
•Acids
•Orb animation
•Game over
• FINALE for those who reach 100,000 points
•Movable-modal dialogs should work in System 6
•Hides window automatically in a switchout in MultiFinder
•Help Dialog box
Version 2.0 requirements:
•Any mac with a 68020 processor or higher.
•256-color/gray scale monitor as your MAIN monitor (the one with the menu bar)
•4 megs RAM under System 7, you may get by with 3.5, and 3 megs RAM under System 6. (s'ydnar squares 2.0 requires at least 1500k to run at all without wierd occurences.)
•Color Quickdraw in ROM, or if you have a Mac II/IIx/IIcx/SE/30, you need the 32-bit Quickdraw extension.
•For sound & music, you need System 7.
s'ydnar squares was written & tested on a 10/40 Mac LC with the 12-inch RGB monitor. It should run on any color mac, and is fully compatible with System 7 and 32-bit addressing. It has been tested on a Centris 650 (68040) running System 7.1.
